Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What water feature services does WaterScape, ATX offer?

We handle a water feature from the first sketch through the years that follow. That means koi pond installation for new builds, water feature maintenance to keep an existing pond or waterfall running, pond cleaning when it is time for a full reset, pond upgrades for features that are not performing the way they should, and fountain and aeration installation when you want moving water without a full pond.

What areas do you serve around Austin?

We work out of Austin and cover Travis, Hays, Blanco and Burnet Counties, including Austin, Lakeway, Bee Cave, Pflugerville, Dripping Springs, Wimberley, Marble Falls and Johnson City. If you are nearby and not on that list, call and ask.

Do you work on water features you did not build?

Yes. A good share of our work is on ponds, waterfalls and fountains somebody else installed. Whether it is green water, a pump that will not keep up, a leak you cannot find or rock work that has shifted, we can look at what is there and tell you what it needs. Start with maintenance or pond upgrades depending on how far the feature has drifted.

What is a Master Certified Aquascape Contractor?

Aquascape is the system most ecosystem ponds in the country are built on, and it certifies the contractors who install and service it. WaterScape has held Master Certified Aquascape Contractor status since 2007, which means the ponds and waterfalls we build in Austin are put together to that standard rather than improvised on site.

What is the difference between a koi pond and a pondless waterfall?

A koi pond holds an open body of water deep enough to keep fish, with filtration and plants that keep the ecosystem in balance. A pondless waterfall runs the same moving water over rock, but the water disappears into a hidden basin of gravel at the bottom instead of collecting in an open pool. People choose pondless when they want the sound and the look without open water or fish to care for. We build both, and we walk through the trade-offs on site. See koi pond installation.

Do you charge for an estimate?

No. We are happy to provide advice and free estimates on new and existing water features. Reach out through our contact page or call (512) 333-1999, and if you already have a feature, a photo of it helps us get to a useful answer faster.

What should I have ready before you come look at my yard?

Not much. It helps to know roughly where you picture the water, which windows or seats you want to see it from, and whether you want fish. Photos of the space, and of any existing feature, go a long way. We handle the rest on site: sun and shade, grade, access for equipment and where power can come from.

Are you only in Austin?

WaterScape operates out of Austin, Texas and also out of Southeast Michigan. The Austin side of the business covers Travis, Hays, Blanco and Burnet Counties, so a project anywhere in that footprint is handled by the local crew.
